Introducing our solid shampoo bar's ingredients. Ingredient number 8: Essential tea tree oil

Making the best men's shampoo bar we can starts with choosing the best possible ingredients.

It took over 30 iterations of our shampoo recipe to develop our unique Tidy solid shampoo for men. Each carefully chosen ingredient used in our honed recipe plays a very specific role in making our shampoo.

To make a shampoo bar you need to combine fats (oils), water, and an alkali in a process called saponification. (See our how to make your own Tidy solid shampoo bar blog post for more details.)

In previous posts we've written about our alkali of choice; Sodium Hydroxide and the fats that we use in Tidy solid shampoo bars for men; Organic Olive oil, Organic Coconut oil, Organic Almond oil, Organic Jojoba oil,  Organic Shea butter, sodium lactate and Organic Essential Mint Oil.

In this post we introduce the final ingredient in our solid shampoo bars for men; Essential Tea Tree oil.

An essential oil from down under

Tea Tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia, native to southeast Queensland and the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia.

Tea tree oil is claimed as useful for treating dandruff, acne, lice, herpes, insect bites, scabies, and skin fungal or bacterial infections. However, due to limited research, the jury is still out on those claims...

What there is enough evidence of is that people love a tea tree and minty shower product 😀

In our pre-launch research back in 2021, every man we spoke with about their favourite shower gels, shampoos, etc all mentioned using a very well known mint and tea tree shower gel. All the women we spoke with about their partner's favourite shower products mentioned the same shower gel.

Whether tea tree oil has any of the benefits various people claim or not, it does have a very distinctive aroma and a very "refreshing" effect when used in shampoo, shower gel or soap.

Which is why it's in our solid shampoo for men.

We only use organic tea tree oil at Tidy, in small quantities. Which results in our shampoo bars having just enough of the familiar tea tree aroma and famous refreshing effect, but not too much - you'll not get a shock if you use our shampoo as an _all_ over body wash 😉
